If you are going to be successful in doing your own woodwork at home, you need to have the right tools for the job. One of the most important tools you will be using is the table saw. In this article, we will closely examine the Dewalt DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite table saw.

At a glance:

Cons:

Ambiguities in the instructions manual.

So much plastic used.

Flimsy miter gauge.

Missing Dado Throat Plate.

No Soft Start Feature.

Pros:

Portable.

Stable Base.

Accessories storage.

Has plenty of power.

Rack and pinion fence is wonderful.

Dual Dust collection.

Storable and Portable:

The most endearing feature of this table saw is its portability. In its portable configuration, it can be stored completely upright, allowing one to store in well out of site. It is small enough to be tossed in the back of a pickup truck.

When it is time to use the saw, it can be wheeled around to any location in the house. Although this saw is heavy; however the stand and the large wheels makes this saw portable. The large wheels on the base allow it to be moved up and down stairs pretty conveniently.

Stable Base:

Once a new location is found, four leg stands can be folded down to form a stable base. One important feature is the fact that the stand actually rests on these four legs and not the wheelbase as with other models since this can be a source of potential instability.

Although it may take 30 seconds longer to set up than Bosch gravity rise stand, but you can’t beat the stability it provides because of its back legs extension.

All in all, it should take only about a minute to deploy the legs and have the stand in position. It should only take another two minutes or so to set up the push stick, miter gauge and riving knife. Then the blade is ready to go.

Accessories Storage:

Accessories are stored conveniently under the device. Each accessory has its own compartment, which is one feature that many users highlight as one of their favorite feature of this saw.

Powerful Saw:

Many people buy the saw for the Dewalt name because of their tradition of quality cutting devices. This particular device features a 15 amp motor. The top speed of the device is 4,800 rounds per minute. Users generally find that the saw is powerful enough to cut through most materials including hardwoods.

Rack and pinion fence:

Like other Dewalt saws Fence adjustment of this unit in my opinion is one of the best in the market. Rack and pinion fence stretches further out to provide the hard to match 32-1/2 inch rip capacity to the right side of the blade. However on the left you’ll only gone a get 22 inches.

The flip over rip fencing is a feature that is highly praised by people who have used the device since it allows people to make very narrow rip cuts. Rack and pinion fence system also features hand adjustable knobs. This makes adjusting and securing the right angle for a cut quite convenient.

Dust Collection:

For those who do not want to have saw dust littering their workspace, Dewalt has a solution for that as well. Dewalt provides dual dust collection in addition to 2.5 inch lower port they have also provided 1.5 inch port on blade guard.

These can be then hooked up to a standard vacuum cleaner. Then turn on the vacuum, and watch the sawdust get lifted up and out of sight while you work on your cuts.

The Device Is Not Without Its Flaws:

As with all power tools, there are some parts of the device that could do with some improvements.

Instruction Manual:

One of the most important is the instruction manual. There are several ambiguities in the instructions that can make putting together the device somewhat difficult.

Most resourceful people can eventually figure out how to put the device together; however, it would be a lot easier if they made things a lot more explicit when describing things in the manual.

Plastic:

Additionally, some corners were cut apparently to lower the cost of the device. Plastic was chosen over hard gauge metal in several instances.

One of the most important is the flimsy miter gauge. It is so lightweight that you can expect it to move and cause a kickback under the wrong circumstances. However, this can be easily remedied by purchasing a more sturdy miter gauge made by a third party.

Dado Throat Plate:

Although it accepts dado blades but you will need the Dado Throat Plate which is not included in this saw which is kind of bummer.

No Soft Start Feature:

This unit lacks soft start feature. Dewalt have redesign start function for safety so now you have to push the green button to start it. Although it is a trade of for safety but for most people it’s gone take some time getting used to.

Should you Buy this:

For those looking for a portable high-quality saw, the Dewalt DWE7491RS provides a great solution. While the accessories provided might not be the best in the world, the saw performs at a top notch level.  After all, people tend to purchase this device for the base qualities of the saw, not the accessories.
